1999

The path of the setting sun makes an angle with the horizon that varies directly with latitude. At the equator (latitude 0°) the sun’s path is perpendicular to the horizon, while near Boston (latitude 42°N) the sun’s path makes a 48° angle. The angle stays the same throughout the year; the point of intersection (sunset) varies and is furthest south at the winter solstice.
